It only took me 7 years to understand this reading…

Time is a funny thing. Time is relative. Time is subjective. The older we get, the faster the months and years seem to be passing. Of course, being stuck in an office with an unfriendly boss and a job we don’t enjoy, makes a day last an eternity. Even though we universally agree that an hour is made up of 60 minutes, the perception of time is indeed subjective.

It is no different when practicing divination. When cards fall on the table, we choose to give a time frame or not. I use both. On one hand, I can set a precise time in a question such as: How will my business evolve in the next 3 months? On the other hand I sometime leave the time frame out all together.

It is the same for questions. I tend to favour precise questions. The sharper the it is, the clearer the answer. However, I occasionally indulge in 3 cards readings with no time frame and no precise questions. I like to get the mind and intuition working and see what comes up. I like to post these on social media from time to time as I believe it helps expand the mind and forces to use the ‘tarot reading muscles’.

A few days ago, social media reminded me of a post I created exactly 7 years ago, it was a 3 cards reading with no context or time frame. When I my eyes fell on the picture, BOOM, it hit me at the back of the head with a frying pan.

In January 2018, I lived in London. I was juggling a career as a performer and working as a tarot reader at the famous Treadwells bookshop in London. I was their newly hired in house tarot reader. I had been reading professionally for many years, but this marked for me the ‘serious’ transition from being a casual tarot reader to one that actually pays taxes from his craft. I felt inspired and excited. A fire was inside of me and I guess you could compare it to an Ace of wand energy.

I clearly remember at the time talking to the owner of the shop, the well known Christina Oakley Harrington about starting to teach some courses on the Marseille tarot in the shop. One thing led to the other and shortly after, I was in the shop’s basement sharing my knowledge with a group of keen students. This venture grew with time. Later on, I left London and moved to Austria, thinking that my career as a tarot reader and teacher would be over. Little did I know then, that my plans in Austria were not the ones that would fulfil me and that my love and fire for tarot would survive the cold winters we get to experience in Vienna. Today I still have my tarot cards in hands, I read, I teach, I became a transpersonal coach and I have also created my own workshops which I call dancing the Tarot, a fusion of systemic family constellation and somatic healing. I am lucky to say that this is my sole work, I live from it and I absolutely love it.

Why am I rambling and telling you this story? Well let’s look at the 3 card reading below and what I originally wrote on this picture. The post was created on the 29th January 2018.

Ace de baton, sept de coupes, quatre de deniers.

Ace of wand, seven of cups, four of coins.

The ace brings the inspiration and fire. The beginning of a new work or activity. In the seven of cups, we see six cups surrounding the one in the centre. The ace becomes the central cup. The fire and action turn into the spiritual individuality of the cup that is being shared to the other cups. Cups don’t only speak about emotions but also about spirituality. The central cup then becomes a solid shield at the centre of the four of cups in the third card. Four coins indicate that my corners are covered financially. I am not a wealthy reader (yet) but I can live of my craft and lean on it just like the four of coins suggests. The 10 of coins is, unfortunately, still a long way to go, but I pay the bills, the rent and put food on the table.

One could say that the action of the ace of wand brings result in the four of coins.

This 3 cards reading came back into life, even if through the algorithm, to remind me that by following the inner fire, I succeed in achieving something major, being independent with my tarot deck in my hand.

What is the lesson here? Try to keep records of readings one way or another. I am not really good at journaling and keeping notes, however, when they happen to surface, they often force me to reflect back and understand better where I am coming from and possibly where I am going as well.

Of course I couldn’t have achieved all this on my own and I would like to thank all the the people that have played a part in this progress. Christina, the Treadwells crew, my students, my faithful clients that have trusted me throughout the years. I couldn’t have done any of it without all your support. Thank you so much.

I wish you all a wonderful Imbolc, time to start celebrating the return of the sun and make some pancakes.
